Brushed Brass

Brushed brass is used worldwide across many industries, with its textured appearance favored for its dull shine, durability, and low maintenance requirements. With many finishes available, this form of brass is highly customizable for projects across architecture and design, artwork, and other projects blending structural needs with aesthetics.

At Polished Metals, our experienced team applies a variety of brushed finishes to brass products, with a wide range of equipment and a high volume of in-house inventory. Our skilled metal finishing experts can meet the demands of any project or industry. Request a quote today to get started or learn more below.

What Is Brushed Brass?

Brushed brass refers to any brass product that is finished with an abrasive material and left with a grooved or lined surface, a byproduct of the abrasive process. This grooved texture leaves the metal slightly rough or textured to the touch.

Brushed brass also features a brighter sheen compared to satin finishes, though not as bright as fully polished brass. Brushed and satin finish are terms that are sometimes used interchangeably, and these finishes are often used in the same situations, but they are not identical.

Properties of Brushed Brass

As mentioned, brushed brass has a textured appearance and feel, but the smoother metal between the grooves of the finish results in a brighter shine. By contrast, satin brass has a duller finish.

The textured appearance of brushed brass makes it ideal for hiding scratches, smudges, and fingerprints compared to mirror polished brass. In addition to this resistance to visible scratches, this metal is also corrosion resistant, durable, and features a muted gold color that lends it to adding elegance to many design visions.

Use Cases

Brushed brass is perfect for higher-traffic environments where less frequent cleaning is desired. It may also be chosen for its aesthetic qualities or even for structural purposes as brass is a relatively strong metal. Below are some common use cases:

  • Detailing in the home, including on appliances and cabinets, plumbing fixtures, and doorknobs
  • Interior design such as lobbies of hotels and offices, elevators (including elevator cabs, doors, and railings), escalators, and trim
  • Architectural and exterior features, such as entryways, safety railings, signage and lettering

“I have worked with Polished Metals periodically throughout my 18 year carrier in the custom metal fabrication industry. They have been a consistent, reliable vendor for me both in regards to informational needs and as a product supplier. Quotes are often required to be turned around by me very quickly and Bob Gunther at Polished Metals sends me pricing and lead-times extremely fast. Our product arrives when we are told it will and if there are any delays (which does not happen often) we are informed ahead of time, which is appreciated. Product arrives undamaged and is of good quality 99% of the time and when there is an issue with damage or defects Polished Metals responds quickly and makes things right quickly. I highly suggest using Polished Metals for your quality metal needs.”

“Our company produces and installs complex high-end projects in New York City. Procuring the materials for projects like the Edge Observation Deck at Hudson Yards can be extremely involved. Over the years they have provided everything from raw material to complex fabricated components for our installations. The key to our relationship has been outstanding communication and trust. As anyone in the construction industry knows things can change in an instant, how a company responds to those changes is critical. “Polished Metals has been a Preferred Vendor of ours for over a decade. Our corporate philosophy dictates that we have Alternate or Secondary Supplier for all product, with the exception of #8 Mirror Polished Stainless Steel. We’ve tried to qualify other suppliers to no avail, as none of them can compete in any of the critical categories. The Customer Support provided by Bob Gunther cannot be replicated, pricing is fair, delivery is always on-time and quality is fantastic. As the Corporate Purchasing Manager for the last 7 years, not once have I had a negative experience with Polished Metals. I can’t say enough good things about them.”
