Bronze Bars
Though less common than materials like aluminum or brass, bronze is also used for various bars, including flat, round, square, and more. Bronze is a metal with a distinct appearance, excellent strength, and supreme resistance to corrosion, making it highly versatile across many projects and situations.
At Polished Metals, we finish a wide variety of extruded bronze products, including bronze bars of all shapes and sizes for use across many different industries throughout the world. No matter the specifications you need, our 50,000 square foot metal finishing facility enables us to process high volume orders of bronze bars and other products with pinpoint precision across each and every item. What Types of Bronze Bars Are There?
Bars are extruded as a solid piece of metal, unlike pipes, which are hollow. Because they’re solid, bars are slightly more versatile in terms of the shapes that may be used. At Polished Metals, we have the equipment and experience needed to finish bronze bars of many shapes and sizes, including flat, round, and more.
- Round Bar – The most commonly shape for a bar is the round bar. Thicker round bronze bars are commonly used for railings, while thinner varieties may be used for decorative purposes or as smaller mechanical components.
- Flat Bar – Bronze flat bar has a thinner, rectangular shape when viewed from the side, and this product is primarily used for aesthetic purposes, such as for metal trim. However, flat bars may also be used for different types of railings or as structural braces in environments where corrosion resistance is key.
- Square Bar – Square bars are symmetrical on all four sides. These products may be used for many functions, including for building machinery, providing structural support, and occasionally as decorative elements.
- Hex Bar – Hex bars (short for “hexagon”) are extruded with six equal sides in a symmetrical, hexagonal shape. Depending on the size, hex bars may be used in machinery, especially for rotating components where the hexagonal shape can slot in with other components.
Industry Use Cases
Bronze bars may be used throughout many different industries around the world. Architecture and design projects commonly make use of various bronze products due to this metal’s appearance, strength, and corrosion resistance. Bronze bars may be used for structural supports, as safety features and railings, or as trim and edging.
In particular, bronze bars are commonly used for elevator and escalator projects. For example, elevator railings often use flat bar products made from finished bronze, brass, and other red metals.
Bronze bars may also be used for hardware products (particularly plumbing components) and for machinery.
Why Use Bronze for Bars?
One of several copper alloys, bronze and relatives such as Muntz, naval brass, and yellow brass feature unique properties that make it a top choice for many different industries and use cases.
As a “red metal,” bronze features a distinct color that makes for a stark contrast when compared to more popular metal choices such as aluminum and stainless steel. Depending on how the metal is finished, bronze may also take on a patina over time, which may result in a deeper color or even provide green accents to its typical appearance.
In addition to its aesthetic properties, however, bronze also performs well in terms of both tensile strength and corrosion resistance. Its overall strength is comparable to stainless steel, and its corrosion resistance enables it to withstand harsh environments such as coastal areas and exposure to other brine solutions.
